The 37th China Qinhuai Lantern Festival
The Qinhuai Lantern Festival, also known as the “Jinling Lantern Festival,” “Confucius Temple Lantern Festival,” or “Nanjing Lantern Festival,” is mainly held during the Spring Festival to Lantern Festival each year.
Impressions of Qinhuai: bright lights and bustling streets; the ancient charm lingers. Among the “Intangible Cultural Heritage” items in Qinhuai, the Qinhuai Lantern Festival is undoubtedly the brightest star.
Since the revival of the annual Qinhuai Lantern Festival in 1986, it has grown significantly. In 2006, the festival was included in the first batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage items, strengthening the “brand” of Qinhuai culture.
Today, the tradition of visiting Confucius Temple to enjoy lanterns during the New Year has become an essential activity for Nanjing residents.
This year’s lantern festival mainly focuses on the Confucius Temple, the eastern gate, and the 10-mile Qinhuai River water tour route, creating a festive atmosphere around the Confucius Temple with various lantern displays.
1. Confucius Temple Core Scenic Area
31 lantern displays are set up in ticketed scenic spots like Dacheng Hall, the Imperial Examination Museum (including the South Garden), and public areas of the Confucius Temple courtyard.
The lantern displays are designed with themes from China’s excellent traditional culture, showcasing the essence and unique charm of Chinese culture.
2. 10-Mile Qinhuai River Water Tour Area
8 lantern displays are set along the Dongwuhuali water tour line and the line from Dongshuiguan to Fucheng Bridge, linking cultural historical spots such as Wuyi Alley, Zhuque Street, Taoye Ferry, and Dongshuiguan, enhancing the lit-up atmosphere along the river tour.
3. Laomendong Area
40 lantern displays are set at key points along the main street of Laomendong District, as well as in side alleys and key points in the Xiaoxi Lake area, with the theme of the Jade Rabbit welcoming the Spring. Modern lighting techniques are used to create a strong festive atmosphere.
4. Public Atmosphere Area
14 lantern displays are set at various key locations, including the east, north, and west archways of the Confucius Temple, Zhan Garden Road archway, Pingjiang Fu Road archway, and several other important streets and bridges such as Laoyan Bridge, Dashiba Street, and Jinyang Road.
The Confucius Temple Qinhuai Scenic Area refers to the area along the Qinhuai River centered around the Confucius Temple, including the streets, alleys, residences, and nearby historical sites and scenic spots.
The lines from Liu Yuxi’s poem “Wuyi Alley” – “Swallows once flew in front of the halls of Wang and Xie families, now they visit common people’s homes” – refer to this very area.
Scenic Area Overview
This area has been one of the most prosperous places in Nanjing since ancient times.
Here, you can not only see the historical buildings of ancient Nanjing but also taste authentic Qinhuai local snacks.
You can wander into the streets and alleys or take a boat ride along the Qinhuai River to experience the local culture and scenery from different perspectives.
At night, colorful lights illuminate the area, creating a dazzling scene. The “Night Mooring at Qinhuai” is especially beautiful.
The scenic area holds festive events year-round, such as the Cultural Temple Fair in spring, Qinhuai Summer in summer, Confucius Temple Food Festival in autumn, and Jinling Lantern Festival in winter.
Various Attractions in the Scenic Area
In addition to Confucius Temple, the scenic area also includes Zhan Garden, the ancient imperial examination site Jiangnan Gongyuan, the former residence of Li Xiangjun, a legendary figure from the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, Wuyi Alley (the residence of Wang Dao and Xie An from Eastern Jin), the private garden of Xu Da, a founding hero of the Ming Dynasty (Bailuzhou Park), Wengcheng Zhonghua Gate, and the former residence of Wu Jingzi, the author of The Scholars.
Cuisine
When visiting the Qinhuai River area, the food is also a major highlight.
There are tea houses, restaurants, and street food all over, and the “Qinhuai Eight Delicacies” are definitely worth trying.
The “Qinhuai Eight Delicacies” refer to 16 famous dishes from eight snack shops in Nanjing, including:

• Yonghe Garden’s Crab Shell Yellow Buns and Dried Shrimp Threads
• Qifang Pavilion’s Duck Oil Crispy Buns and Sesame Oil Dried Threads

Zhongshan Mausoleum Scenic Area (No admission fee) 4.7/5
Zhongshan Mausoleum is located in the Zhongshan Scenic Area in the eastern suburbs of Nanjing, east of Linggu Temple and west of the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum.
The entire architectural complex is built along the mountain slope, arranged along a central axis from south to north, with the mausoleum forming a “warning bell” shape.
Overall Layout of Zhongshan Mausoleum
Zhongshan Mausoleum includes several buildings such as the Bo’ai Archway, tomb path, mausoleum gate, stele pavilion, sacrificial hall, and the tomb chamber.
At the entrance square of the mausoleum, there is a grand granite archway with the gold inscription “Bo’ai” (Universal Love).Walking north past the Bo’ai Archway, you will reach a nearly 400-meter-long tomb path with 392 stone steps, a height difference of 73 meters.
Proceed along the tomb path to the mausoleum gate, which has a blue glazed tile roof, with the inscription “Tianxia Weigong” (The World Belongs to the People) written above the gate.Next is the stele pavilion, and you can continue forward until you reach the sacrificial hall.
Stairs
To reach the top of Zhongshan Mausoleum, you need to climb a long flight of stairs. There are platforms at intervals for resting. There is a visual design trick here: when you look from below, you only see the steps, not the platforms, and when you look from above, you only see the platforms, not the steps. You may want to pay attention to this.
On the fifth platform, there are two large cauldrons, one of which has shell holes caused by Japanese artillery during the invasion of China.
Sacrificial Hall
At the peak of the mountain is the main building of Zhongshan Mausoleum—the sacrificial hall, which is built in a palace-style.The top of the central door has a vertical plaque that reads “Tiandi Zhengqi” (The Rightful Spirit of Heaven and Earth).
In the center of the sacrificial hall is a seated statue carved from white marble, with six reliefs on the base.
Tomb Chamber
Inside the sacrificial hall, there are two copper tomb doors, leading to a circular tomb chamber, with a long tomb pit in the center. The tomb chamber is not open to the public.
Surroundings of the Mausoleum
Outside the mausoleum complex, there are also commemorative buildings such as a music stage, Guanghua Pavilion, Liuhui Pavilion, Yangzhi Pavilion, Zhongshan Academy, Sutra Pavilion, and Xingjian Pavilion.

Zhouzhuang (Including the main entrance ticket) 4.5/5
Zhouzhuang is a world-famous water town in the Jiangnan region. The town is crisscrossed with waterways, and its ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties are built along the river. The twin bridges depicted in the paintings of artist Chen Yifei capture the gentleness of the small bridges, flowing water, and people’s homes. The southern part of the town, South Lake, is vast and beautiful. At night, Zhouzhuang lights up, offering a different kind of charm.
Visit Highlights
In the misty rain of Jiangnan, ancient courtyards with brick-carved doorways
The architecture of Zhouzhuang mainly consists of Jiangnan-style residences, with nearly a hundred ancient courtyards, most of which date back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. The town is surrounded by water, and its waterways are arranged in a grid-like pattern, giving Zhouzhuang a unique layout where streets are formed along the water and the market thrives along them.
Above the water alleys of Zhouzhuang, there are 14 ancient stone bridges preserved from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The ancient bridges, water alleys, and old houses truly reflect the “small bridge, flowing water, and people’s homes” charm.
Visiting Ancient Residences, Tracing Famous Figures
There are many ancient residential buildings here, and the famous ones include Zhang Hall, Shen Hall, and the mysterious Shen Wansan’s underwater tomb, which is said to be the tomb of Shen Wansan’s clothing and cap. Shen Hall was built by the descendants of Shen Wansan and is one of the best-preserved Qing dynasty residences in Zhouzhuang. The exquisite structure offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of Jiangnan’s great rich families, and you can even touch the legendary “Treasure Basin.” Zhang Hall, originally named Yishun Hall, was built in the earlier Ming dynasty and later passed to the Zhang family during the Qing dynasty, becoming a typical Ming dynasty official residence.
The Rowboat in the Water Alley: A Beautiful Water Town Dream
Zhouzhuang is a small town, about 1-2 kilometers in length and width, and it can be fully explored on foot. However, it is highly recommended to take a boat ride along the waterways. The boats in the town are traditional wooden boats covered with blue floral fabric from the water town. A boat can carry 1 to 6 people, and the boatwomen often sing traditional Kunqu opera tunes, adding to the charm of the water town.
“Only This Zhouzhuang” Immersive Multidimensional Space Drama
“Only This Zhouzhuang” is an immersive multidimensional space drama designed to take the audience on a “journey to meet themselves” through the idea of a dream within a dream. The play breaks away from traditional theater and stage performances, exploring space and time issues through deconstruction and reconstruction. It combines Song dynasty aesthetics with multidimensional technological creativity, leading the audience on a journey beyond the three-dimensional space, allowing for a super-sensory emotional and spiritual experience.
Leisurely Life, Enjoying Relaxation at Your Own Pace
Zhouzhuang is a great place to relax. In the morning, you can enjoy the breeze by the river and have some local Jiangnan breakfast. During the day, you can stroll around the town, enjoy tea and opera in a teahouse, or visit a café to read and sip coffee. In the evening, you can go to a bar and have a drink. Many bars offer live music or performances.
Accommodation in Zhouzhuang
If possible, it is recommended to stay overnight in the ancient town to get a deeper understanding of this place. Zhouzhuang has many guesthouses run by locals, most of which are located along the river and come with a backyard. The environment is peaceful and quiet, and you can choose according to your personal needs.
Zhouzhuang Cuisine
When you visit Zhouzhuang, you must taste the local snacks. There are many unique snack shops near Zhenfeng Street and around Shen Hall. The town’s snacks are very rich, including Wan San Pig Trotters, Granny’s Dish, White Silken Fish, and Three-flavor Balls. You can also find Jiangnan specialties like Qing Tuan, Socks Bottom Crisps, and Chest-supporting Cakes. You can enjoy these snacks while strolling around the town.
Night Tour of Zhouzhuang Ancient Town
The guide will take you on a tour for about 1 hour, and then you can enjoy a deep and leisurely stroll around Zhouzhuang. Zhouzhuang is the hometown of all artistic youth. The rivers are the streets, and boats are the means of transport. The locals see the water flow through their courtyards every day, but at night, with the light and shadows of the small bridges and flowing water, accompanied by soft singing, a different kind of magic is created. People say, “One day is a water town, one night is Zhouzhuang.” During the night tour, you will step into Zhouzhuang’s dreamy world.

Canglang Pavilion is one of the oldest gardens in Suzhou, along with Shizi Lin, Zhuozheng Garden, and Liu Garden, representing different periods of Suzhou gardens from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties, collectively known as the “Four Great Gardens of Suzhou.” Compared to other popular gardens, this one is quieter and more peaceful, with the landscape centered around artificial mountains, and the exquisite lattice windows in the corridors are also worth admiring.
Canglang Pavilion was built by Su Shi, a scholar from the Northern Song Dynasty, who was exiled. The garden’s name comes from the “Chuci” (Songs of Chu), “Canglang’s water is clear, I can wash my tassel; Canglang’s water is turbid, I can wash my feet,” implying a place of reflection and serenity. The main entrance is located at the northwest corner, where visitors can first glimpse the pond outside the garden. After crossing the bridge, the garden unfolds with its central artificial mountain, with the famous Canglang Pavilion at the peak, surrounded by other buildings. West Lake Scenic Area (no tickets required) 4.7/5🌊🏞️
West Lake is undoubtedly the symbol of Hangzhou’s beauty. The famous “Ten Scenic Spots of West Lake” surround the lake, blending natural scenery with cultural elements, making it the core area of Hangzhou tourism. You don’t have to insist on visiting every single spot—instead, spend half a day or even a full day wandering along the lakeside. However you choose to explore, it will surely lift your spirits. 🌿🎐
Overview of West Lake
You can explore West Lake by walking, boating, taking an electric sightseeing car, driving, or cycling. Electric cars are the most convenient—they stop on demand and circle the entire lake. Cycling along the lake is both romantic and relaxing, and there are plenty of public bike rental spots around. If you prefer boating, nearly 10 piers line the lakeshore, offering a variety of boats and routes. It’s highly recommended to take a boat to the “Three Pools Mirroring the Moon” in the center of the lake while enjoying the scenic views. Or, hire a rowboat with a local boatman for a more free and intimate experience. 🚴🚤
Scenic Northern Route
The northern shore of West Lake is home to many attractions. Most people start at “Broken Bridge and Melting Snow” in the northeast and head west toward Yue Fei Temple. You can stroll along the Bai Causeway to Solitary Hill, where you’ll find cultural spots such as Xiling Seal Society, Zhejiang Provincial Museum, China Seal Museum, and Fanghe Pavilion. Enjoy authentic West Lake Vinegar Fish at Lou Wai Lou Restaurant, then exit the island via Xiling Bridge—you’ll soon reach Yue Fei Temple and the Lotus in the Breeze at Crooked Courtyard. 🏯🌸
In the hot summer sun, it’s recommended to walk along Beishan Road under the thick tree canopy, watching the graceful curve of the Broken Bridge and the swaying willows on Bai Causeway. There are several paths along the way leading to Baoshi Hill, where you can hike for panoramic views before descending near Yue Fei Temple. At Yue Fei Square, there are many snack stalls. In the evening, don’t miss the “Impression West Lake” performance here. If you still have energy, you can continue walking along Su Causeway for sweeping views of West Lake. 🌳☀️🌉
Southeast Lakeside (Hubin to Nanshan Road)
Another highlight-rich area is along the southeastern lakeside, from Hubin Road to Nanshan Road. Hubin Road marks the junction of West Lake Scenic Area and downtown Hangzhou. Here you can enjoy lake views, catch a boat at one of the piers, or watch the famous musical fountain. Hubin Road also provides quick access to city shopping areas—ideal for visitors with tight schedules. ⛲🛍️
Heading south from Hubin Road along Nanshan Road, you’ll pass attractions like Orioles Singing in the Willows, Long Bridge, Leifeng Pagoda, Evening Bell at Nanping Hill, and Viewing Fish at Flower Pond. These spots are close together, easily explored on foot or by sightseeing bus. Plan a day to visit several based on your interests. Leifeng Pagoda and Evening Bell at Nanping are especially enchanting at dusk—listen to temple bells at Jingci Temple or enjoy the night view of West Lake from the pagoda. 🔔🏮🌃
Su Causeway (No Admission Ticket) 4.7/5🌸🌉
Su Causeway stretches from north to south across West Lake. It was built during Su Dongpo’s tenure in Hangzhou and is also known as “Su Gong Causeway.” In spring, it becomes particularly enchanting and is called “Spring Dawn at Su Causeway.” Nearly 3 kilometers long, it’s lined with willows on both sides of its paved road. You can stroll and enjoy views of attractions like Three Pools Mirroring the Moon and Leifeng Pagoda. It’s also great for biking when the area isn’t too crowded. 🚴♀️🌿
Attractions Along the Way
From south to north, the Su Causeway features six stone bridges: Yingbo, Suolan, Wangshan, Yadi, Dongpu, and Kuahong. 🌉Between Yingbo Bridge and Suolan Bridge lies the entrance to the famous scenic spot “Viewing Fish at Flower Harbor”; standing on Yingbo Bridge, you can glimpse a corner of it. 🎣🌸
Yadi Bridge is ideal for viewing a panoramic view of West Lake. In the southern Imperial Stele Pavilion stands an inscription by Emperor Kangxi: “Spring Dawn at Su Causeway.” 🏞️🖋️Dongpu Bridge is a great spot to watch the sunrise over the lake. 🌅The attractions are mostly concentrated at both ends of the causeway. At the southern entrance stands the Su Dongpo Memorial Hall, open to the public for free. It’s only 500 meters from Leifeng Pagoda and Jingci Temple. 🏯📸
Near the northern entrance are sites such as Yue Fei Temple, Quyuan Fenghe (Breeze-ruffled Lotus at Quyuan Garden), Solitary Hill Park, and the performance venue for Impression West Lake. 🎭🌺
Natural Scenery
Su Causeway is especially charming in spring—perfect for strolling and photography 📷. In summer, large stretches of lotus flowers bloom on its western side. 🌸🌿Walking along the lakeside paths on both sides of the causeway is very relaxing. If you get tired, there are benches for a pleasant rest. 🛋️🍃
Travel Tips
Since motor vehicles are not allowed on Su Causeway, walking is the common way to explore it. If you stroll without stopping, it usually takes about an hour to finish. 🚶♀️🚶♂️To save time, you can hop on a hop-on-hop-off sightseeing cart that goes around the lake. 🚌Cycling around the Su Causeway can also be enjoyable 🚴, but avoid doing it on crowded holidays, or you’ll constantly be dodging the crowd. 🚫🚴

Wuzhen is a historic water town located in the northern suburbs of Tongxiang. Its main scenic areas are West Scenic Zone and East Scenic Zone. Highlights not to be missed include enjoying the night view of West Zone, taking a traditional rowing boat ride, and watching folk performances. This town was also the filming location for the drama “Time Goes By”, starring Huang Lei and Rene Liu.
East and West Zones are about 1.5 km apart. If you wish to explore both areas in one day, it’s recommended to arrive early. Begin with East Zone (2–3 hours), have lunch, then continue your journey in West Zone, and enjoy the night views there.
If you have more time, it’s ideal to spend one full day each in the West and East Zones.
Highlights of West and East Scenic Zones: 👀
You can stroll along the cobblestone paths in West Zone all day, trying local snacks like stinky tofu, Ding Sheng cakes, and Sister-in-law pastries. Also, visit cultural landmarks like Zhaoming Academy and the Old Post Office, and don’t miss a rowing boat ride for an immersive water town experience. If time permits, don’t miss the night tour of West Zone. The waterways, old bridges, and white walls lit by lanterns create a stunning scene, made even more poetic with a boat ride.
After enjoying the night view, relax with a drink at a bar, watch an old movie in an open-air theater, or listen to a traditional flower-drum opera – it’s a truly pleasant experience.Compared to West Zone, East Zone is smaller but feels more lively and residential.Locals still live here. Attractions include a shadow puppet theater, Sanbai liquor distillery, Xiuzhen Taoist Temple, and the Former Residence of Mao Dun. You can also catch traditional folk shows such as boxing boats and pole-climbing boats, offering richer cultural and historical experiences.
Shuttle buses are available between East and West Zones.
Local Food and Souvenirs: 🍜🎁
Braised mutton and soy-sauce duck are must-tries in Wuzhen, especially the mutton which is particularly famous.Popular restaurants include Hanlin Mansion and Fengyuan Restaurant in East Zone, and Yusheng Restaurant and the Soy Duck Specialty Restaurant in West Zone.Don’t miss street snacks like fried stinky tofu, Ding Sheng cakes, and Sister-in-law pastries, found throughout the alleys.
Great souvenirs include handmade Sanbai Liquor, Tao Xuchang brand soybean paste, exquisite wood or bamboo carvings, and blue-printed cloth products like scarves, coasters, umbrellas, wallets, and symbolic trinkets – all available in the many specialty shops.
Accommodations in the Scenic Area: 🏨🌙
There are many hotels and guesthouses within West Zone, all officially managed with various price levels. Staying within the scenic area makes it convenient for sightseeing, especially to enjoy the night scenes. There are also plenty of hotels and inns outside the scenic zone, which are generally more budget-friendly.
Or East Zone (includes first admission ticket) – Rated 4.3/5 📷
East Zone is the main filming location of the drama “Time Goes By”. Its traditional residences stretch along the riverbanks and are still inhabited by locals, giving it a more authentic feel than West Zone.Visit famous spots like the Former Residence of Mao Dun and Xiuzhen Temple, and take a ride on a black-awning boat to appreciate the tranquil life of a water town.
As you walk along both banks of Dongshi River, you’ll find major attractions like the Mao Dun Residence, Lizhi Academy, Wood Carving Gallery, and Coin Museum. Daytime folk shows are also worth watching – boxing boats in the shopping area, pole boats in Caishen Bay, flower-drum operas at the old stage, and shadow puppets in Hanlin Mansion all showcase Wuzhen’s vibrant traditions. For safety reasons, hotels are not allowed in East Zone, though a few homestays operated by locals exist. They offer fewer amenities than West Zone but are cheaper and give a more genuine feel of the water-town lifestyle.
As the final stop, East Wuzhen is like the cover image of Jiangnan in China. 🌊📸
With thousands of years of cultural heritage, serene water-town scenery, flavorful cuisine, vibrant folk festivals, rich humanities, and a timeless lifestyle, Wuzhen is a living fossil of ancient Eastern civilization.Wisdom passed through generations and the fragrance of scholarly pursuits combine here to unfold a charming painting – a beauty that feels innate and eternal. 🎨✨

The Bund is located along the Huangpu River, approximately 1.5 kilometers long. It is an iconic symbol of Shanghai, featuring a variety of architectural styles and offering breathtaking views of the Huangpu River, especially at night. 🏙️🌃
The Bund is home to dozens of different classical Renaissance-style buildings, such as the famous China Bank Building, Peace Hotel, Customs House, and HSBC Building, which recreate the grandeur of the “Wall Street of the Far East.” 🏢🌉
Surprisingly, these buildings were not designed by the same architect nor built in the same period, yet they possess a unique harmony. 🌟🏛️
The Bund features a variety of architectural styles, including French Classical, French Mansard, and Gothic, representing important historical landmarks of modern China and offering a beautiful view along the Huangpu River. 🏛️🏞️
As night falls, neon lights on both sides of the river create a dazzling scene. You can take a Huangpu River cruise or ferry to enjoy the breeze and the stunning views: the Bund’s historical buildings on one side and the modern skyline of Lujiazui on the other, with the elegant silhouette of the Waibaidu Bridge. 🚢🌉🌟

The pedestrian street begins at Xizang Middle Road (east of People’s Square) and ends at Henan Middle Road, with a dark red marble monument at each end. 🏙️While walking on the street, you can find creative city sculptures, unique streetlights, flower beds, phone booths, and manhole covers with different architectural designs. There are also many benches in the middle of the street for visitors to relax. 🏙️🛋️
Nanjing Road is one of Shanghai’s busiest shopping streets and has been a hub for department stores since the early 20th century. Shopping here is sure to be rewarding. 🛍️💰Today, it’s home to both old department stores like Yongan Department Store and Huallian Mall, as well as large shopping centers like New World City, Baillie World Trade International Plaza, and Landmark Plaza, where you can buy almost anything. 🛒🏬

However, this does not apply to shopping behaviors during free activities, spontaneous shopping at non-shopping stores during the trip, and certain shopping locations. For non-quality issues and non-counterfeit goods, return shipping fees and related costs will be borne by the tourists. For more details, please refer to the “Unconditional Return Assistance Service for Shopping Stores.”
If the itinerary of this product includes shopping stores, shopping is not mandatory. Please be cautious when shopping, and carefully check before payment to ensure the product is in good condition, with complete accessories and relevant certification. Be sure to understand the after-sales service process, and keep the receipts safely after purchase.
Tourists holding military officer certificates, senior citizen cards, student cards, and other documents eligible for discounts at scenic spots/venues should carry the original documents during the trip. The specific discounts and benefits will be assessed by the service staff on-site.
Please carry your valid ID original with you during the trip. For travelers under 16, please carry the original household registration book. Travelers over 16 without an ID card should obtain a relevant certificate from their household registration location to avoid issues with boarding or hotel check-in. Please make sure to check the validity of your documents before the trip.
For children’s tickets purchased using the valid ID information of an accompanying adult or the child’s own ID, the original valid ID of the accompanying adult or the child and the order number must be provided. If the child does not have a resident ID card but uses the ID number listed in the household registration book to buy the child’s ticket, the original household registration book or a temporary ID issued by the railway police at the station can be used as a valid ID for ticket exchange. To avoid affecting your trip, please arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before your flight’s departure to complete check-in procedures.
The destination may have some privately operated entertainment or consumer venues. Most of these organizations lack legal operating qualifications and pose various risks. For your safety and health, the travel agency reminds you to consume cautiously.
