Known since early reform days, it has hosted many national and international dignitaries who praised it highly — a source of pride for Guilin locals 🇨🇳.

Reed Flute Cave is 240 meters deep with a visiting route of around 500 meters, typically taking about 40 minutes to explore. 🕰️ Inside the cave, you’ll wander through forests of stone columns under colorful lights, creating a dreamlike fairyland atmosphere ✨. The cave offers free Chinese-speaking guide services. The guides explain thoroughly and pause at every attraction for visitors to observe while listening. 🧑🏫 However, a drawback is that once the explanation ends, the guide moves on immediately — giving no time to linger — and the lights are controlled by the guide, so when they leave, the lights go off 💡. During peak season, when multiple groups enter the cave with different guides, you can easily follow a later group to take your time. 😄

As you continue cycling, the first attraction you will encounter is the Totem Road, showcasing the raw, authentic style of ancient tribes. Take a bamboo raft ride on the Yulong River, where both banks offer breathtaking, picturesque mountain and water views. It was originally built by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang for his grandnephew Zhu Shouqian as a prince’s city. Today, it is a National 5A-level tourist attraction in Guilin, with Duxiu Peak as its landmark. 🕍In the scenic area, natural landscapes blend harmoniously with cultural and historical landmarks, creating a “city within a view, a view within a city.” It embodies Guilin’s identity as a world-famous city of landscape and culture. The renowned phrase “Guilin’s scenery is the best under heaven” originated from a stone inscription on Duxiu Peak. 🌿🌆It encompasses the three major cultural systems of Guilin and stands as a quintessential representation of the city’s heritage. As early as the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the great literary figure Yan Yanzhi studied and composed poetry at the foot of Duxiu Peak, initiating a literary trend in Lingnan. During the Tang Dynasty, Guangxi’s first government-run academy was established here. In the Song Dynasty, Wang Zhenggong engraved the famous phrase “Guilin’s scenery is the best under heaven” on the mountain, which later became a symbolic slogan of Guilin. 🖋️📚

In the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang’s advisor Liu Bowen recognized the feng-shui significance of Duxiu Peak and constructed the Jingjiang Princes’ Mansion. During the Qing Dynasty, it became the Guangxi Examination Hall, a major venue for imperial exams in southwest China, producing 585 Jinshi (successful candidates) and 4 top scholars, one of whom achieved the rare “Triple First” honor. 🎓🧠

During the Republic of China period, Sun Yat-sen used the mansion as the base for his Northern Expedition. In 1954, Guangxi Normal University moved in. Duxiu Peak and the Princes’ City have long been a hub of Guangxi’s politics, economy, and culture. 🏛️📖

Duxiu Peak stands tall and solitary in the center of Guilin. As the highest among the surrounding hills, it’s known as the “King of Guilin’s Peaks.” Climbing to the summit offers a panoramic view of the entire city, evoking the grandeur of “overlooking all mountains in a single glance.” It’s praised as the “Pillar of Southern Sky.” 🗻👑

As early as the Southern Dynasty, the great writer Yan Yanzhi composed the line “None as majestic as the lone Duxiu, towering amidst city walls,” capturing the peak’s imposing presence. 📝🌟

【Jingjiang Princes’ Mansion】 🏯

Jingjiang Princes’ Mansion is one of China’s best-preserved royal residences and a central attraction of the Duxiu Peak Scenic Area. The museum, also known as “Chengyun Hall,” was where ancient princes handled state affairs. It now showcases the history of the mansion and the evolution of Guilin, using advanced projection and 3D technology. Visitors can also try ancient rubbing techniques in the “Royal Rubbing Workshop.” 🖼️🏛️

【Duxiu Peak Cliff Inscriptions】 ⛰️🪨

On the cliffs of Duxiu Peak are over 200 stone inscriptions preserved from various dynasties. Among them is the renowned phrase “Guilin’s scenery is the best under heaven.” The site also features rare Buddhist and Taishui carvings, and the “Five Blessings” series that appeared in the 2017 CCTV Spring Festival Gala. These are now protected as national cultural relics. 🧱✨

【Royal Secret Rubbing】 🎨📜

The Royal Secret Rubbing technique is a centuries-old art developed by the third generation Prince Jingjiang, Zhu Zuo-jing. It is now listed as an intangible cultural heritage. Visitors can experience this ancient printing method firsthand, learning how it contributes to the preservation and transmission of Chinese history and folk art. 🖌️🏺

Duxiu Peak (Exterior View) 4.9/5 🏔️

Located inside Jingjiang Princes’ City in downtown Guilin, Duxiu Peak is a famous and unique mountain. From the summit, one can view the entire city. The peak is also known for ancient inscriptions by historical figures, most notably the world-famous line: “Guilin’s scenery is the best under heaven,” carved at its base. 🌍🗿Duxiu Peak rises dramatically behind the prince’s residence, its sharp, towering form resembling a peak carved by blades, surrounded by other hills. It stands alone, majestic like a monarch. 👑⛰️

The steps up Duxiu Peak are steep, wide, and narrow—leaving little room for rest. 🧗♂️On the southern side of the mountain, three vertically aligned characters for “longevity” are inscribed. The top one is said to be a gift from Empress Dowager Cixi. 🎁📜Other inscriptions such as “Pillar of Southern Sky” can also be found, but the most famous remains the Song Dynasty official Wang Zhenggong’s phrase: “Guilin’s scenery is the best under heaven.” 🖋️📖

At the summit, one can overlook the surrounding peaks and the Jingjiang Princes’ Mansion below—a perfect viewpoint of the city, offering a refreshing sense of openness. 🦅🏙️

At the base of Duxiu Peak lies Taiping Cave, originally named “West Cave.” Prince Gonghui of Jingjiang found a “Taiping Tongbao” coin there, considered an auspicious sign, and renamed the cave “Taiping Cave.” 💰🕳️
