Depart from the meeting point and take the bus to the Yellow Emperor Mausoleum Scenic Area 🚌The Yellow Emperor Mausoleum is located in Huangling County, Yan’an City. The Yellow Emperor, whose surname was Gongsun and personal name Xuanyuan, was born into a matrilineal clan society. His mother was named Fubao. According to historical records: “On the second day of the second lunar month, the Yellow Emperor was born near the Ju River (now in Huangling County), at the Dragon Descending Gorge, and from then on, the auspicious saying of ‘the dragon raises its head on the second day of the second month’ began.” 🐉🌲

In the “Records of the Grand Historian,” Sima Qian described the Yellow Emperor as follows: “He was born divine, weak yet eloquent, young yet disciplined, strong yet intelligent, and matured into a wise leader.” ✨📚It is clear that the Yellow Emperor was no ordinary person from birth to adulthood. At the age of 15, he was elected the leader of the Xuanyuan tribe by the people, and at 37, he ascended the throne. The Yellow Emperor’s significant contribution was in waging and winning fifty-three battles, defeating the Yuwang, subduing the Emperor Yan, and defeating the fierce Chiyou, ending the wars, uniting three major tribes, and marking the beginning of human civilization after the barbaric age. ⚔️🌍

Therefore, later generations honored Xuanyuan Huangdi as the “First Ancestor of Humanity” and the “Ancestor of Civilization.” As a result, Yan’an is also referred to as the birthplace of the Chinese nation. 🏛️👑

10:30 Attraction / Venue 🏯

Yellow Emperor Mausoleum (ticket not included) 4.5/5 🌟

The Yellow Emperor Mausoleum is located on Qiaoshan Mountain, about 1 kilometer from the center of Huangling County. It is the burial place of the ancestor of the Chinese nation, Xuanyuan Huangdi, and a sacred site for Chinese people to worship their ancestors. 🏞️🙏There are many Yellow Emperor Mausoleums across the country, but only the one in Huangling County is listed as a national key cultural heritage site. 🇨🇳🏛️The Yellow Emperor Mausoleum is surrounded by ancient cypress trees, and successive governments have placed great importance on the preservation of these ancient trees. 🌲🌳

The Yellow Emperor Mausoleum Scenic Area consists of two parts: the Xuanyuan Temple and the Yellow Emperor Mausoleum Garden. 🏯🌳

The Xuanyuan Temple, also known as the Yellow Emperor Temple, is located north to south and was built as early as the Han Dynasty. Its main structures include the temple gate, Chengxin Pavilion, Stele Pavilion, and the Hall of the First Ancestor of Humanity. 🏛️🔮There are 16 ancient cypress trees in the temple courtyard, with the most valuable being the “Hand-Planted Cypress of the Yellow Emperor” and the “Cypress of Emperor Wu’s Armor.” 🌲💚The Hand-Planted Cypress of the Yellow Emperor stands about 20 meters tall, strong and upright, with leaves that remain lush throughout the year, forming a thick canopy like a giant green umbrella. 🌳☂️It is said that this cypress tree was personally planted by Xuanyuan Huangdi more than 5,000 years ago and is one of the oldest cypress trees in the world. 🌍🌲On the eastern side of the Xuanyuan Temple, there is a corridor of steles that contains 57 sacrificial inscription steles created by emperors from various dynasties. 📜👑In the main hall of the Xuanyuan Temple, there is a golden plaque inscribed with the words “First Ancestor of Humanity.” In the center of the hall is a plaque with the inscription “The Seat of Xuanyuan Huangdi,” and inside the shrine is a jade carving of the Yellow Emperor. 🏯✨

Since the fifth year of the reign of Tang Emperor Daizong (770 AD), this place has been the site of national sacrifices held by various dynasties. ⛩️👑After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, annual sacrificial ceremonies are held here during the Qingming Festival and the Double Ninth Festival, with the Qingming national public sacrifice becoming a traditional national ritual of the Chinese people (the public sacrifice during Qingming is not open to ordinary tourists). 🇨🇳🙏

15:30 Attraction / Venue 🎡

Shaanxi Hukou Waterfall (ticket not included) 🏞️

The Hukou Waterfall of the Yellow River is located in the Qinjin Grand Canyon. To the east is the Shanxi Linfen area, and to the west is the Shaanxi Yichuan County, about 35 km east of Yichuan County in Yan’an. 🌄🌊Due to the high sediment content of the Yellow River water, this is one of the few golden-yellow waterfalls in the world. 🌟

As the Yellow River water roars into the Qinjin Gorge, the width of the river suddenly narrows from over 400 meters to 50 meters, pouring into a 30-meter drop, and because it resembles the pouring water from a teapot, it is named the Hukou Waterfall. 🍶🌊Here, the Yellow River is gathered by the gorge into a single stream, roaring as it rushes downward, plunging into a deep pool, sending up massive waves and mist, creating an extremely magnificent scene. 🌊💨Standing by the river, one is overwhelmed by its power. It is also revered as a symbol of “national spirit,” “Yellow River soul,” and the indomitable spirit of the Chinese people. 🏞️💪The Hukou Waterfall offers different views throughout the year. The best times to visit are divided into two periods: 🌸🍂The first is from April to May each year, when peach blossoms bloom near the waterfall, and the frozen ice on the banks starts to melt, bringing a lively spring atmosphere, known as the “March Peach Blossom Flood.” 🌸🌿The second period is from September to November, after the rainy season, when autumn winds blow, often accompanied by rainbows, known as the “Hukou Autumn Wind.” 🍁🌈

During spring and autumn, the water volume is larger, and the sound of the water crashing is like thunder, more stunning than usual. 🌧️⚡In winter, you may also see the “Ice Waterfall Miracle.” The river flows down from the varied ice formations on both sides, forming a beautiful ice bridge beneath the waterfall. ❄️🏔️

South Niwan Scenic Area (No ticket required) 🌾

South Niwan is the birthplace of the South Niwan spirit. Today, visitors can explore large terraced fields cultivated back then, the South Niwan Great Production Movement Exhibition Hall, the Jiulong Spring, and the memorial monument. 🌱💪

The South Niwan Great Production Movement Exhibition Hall provides a detailed introduction to the movement, using physical items and photos. 🖼️📜There were no houses, so they dug cave dwellings by hand; no vegetables, so they dug wild plants to eat; no tools, so they made their own hoes and shovels. With incredible determination, they grew crops in the barren mountains. 🌾⛏️

In just three years, the 359th brigade carried forward the revolutionary spirit of “self-reliance and hard work,” transforming the once barren and desolate South Niwan into a “land of crops and livestock” in Northern Shaanxi. 🌾🐄

Wangjiaping Revolutionary Site (No ticket required) 🏠

Wangjiaping Revolutionary Site is located about 4 kilometers northwest of Yan’an city. It was here that the Eighth Route Army and New Fourth Army carried out their hard-fought eight-year resistance against Japan. ⚔️On the east side of the hall, visitors can visit the reception room; on the west side of the hall is the military commission’s staff courtyard; and there are several old residences in the front courtyard and nearby hillside. 🏠Visitors can also tour the historical military commission’s office, meeting room, policy research room, and more. 🗂️

Activity time: Approximately 30 minutes ⏳

10:00 Attraction / Venue 🎡

Zaoyuan Revolutionary Site (No ticket required) 🌳

From 1944 to March 1947, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China moved from Yangjialing to Zaoyuan. After 1947, the Central Committee withdrew from Yan’an, and Zaoyuan was severely damaged. The buildings now standing were rebuilt after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. 🏚️🔨

The scenic area now offers attractions such as the small hall of the Central Secretariat, the former residences of great leaders, the “Serve the People” podium, the Central Medical Office, and the Happy Canal. 🌿🏛️The scenic area is open for free and currently does not require tickets. Visitors can enter directly for sightseeing. 🎫❌Zaoyuan was originally a landlord’s manor. Unlike Yangjialing, where the cave dwellings are typical of Northern Shaanxi, Zaoyuan is full of pastoral beauty. 🌾🌸When you enter Zaoyuan, you’ll feel like you’re walking into a spacious farm with lush greenery. 🌳🌿On the right side of Zaoyuan, near the hillside, you can see the “Happy Canal” built back then. This canal turned the dry land into irrigated fields, ensuring a bountiful harvest every year. 🌾💧

In the center of Zaoyuan, you can see the small hall of the Central Secretariat, which was also used as a club and meeting room. The decisions of the “Chongqing Negotiations” were made here. 🏛️✍️Many important historical events also took place in this garden. 📜
